Mission
To promotes effective patient education as an integral component of quality cancer care for patients and families across Canada.
Vision
CPEN - Canada has the vision to empower cancer patients and families to actively and effectively participate in their cancer care by ensuring that they receive the right information, at the right time and in the right way.
CPEN - Canada strives to ensure best practice in cancer patient education by supporting cancer centres, hospitals and community organizations develop and improve the delivery, management and quality of their cancer patient education services.
Primary Objectives of CPEN - Canada
- Create awareness of the specific needs for quality patient education in treatment facilities across Canada.
- Develop national standards and guidelines for the implementation, management and evaluation of high quality cancer patient education programs and materials.
- Facilitate communication and resource sharing among cancer patient educators in Canada.
- Promote the development, implementation, management and evaluation of high quality cancer patient education programs and materials.
- Become active and effective patient educators who mentor other medical professionals to educate well throughout the process of cancer care.
- Develop ways to help each other meet the growing challenges of educating a diverse patient population with wide ranges of age, culture, language, education, ability and socioeconomics.
- Promote and support research in cancer patient education as the foundation for enhancing current programs and materials and for proceeding with new initiatives.
- Advocate for institutional allocation of funding for essential cancer patient education programs and materials in all treatment facilities
